Message statuses
There are several message statuses that you'll see in your inbox. We'll walk through each of these statuses below.
Delivered
This is reserved for SMS messages: it means that your text went through!
Undelivered
There are a couple of reasons your messages could show up as "undelivered". The main causes are
- The phone number is no longer in service
- The phone number is actually a house number, and incapable of receiving messages
- Your message was carrier filtered
If this message was a campaign, you can also see the status and reason on the delivery stats page.
Queued/Accepted
Your message has been received by twilio, our texting service, and the message is still processing to be sent. Typically occurs after a larger message has been sent. Sit tight on this one, the message should go out in the next few hours.
Sending/Sent
Your message has been received by twilio, our texting service, and the message was sent to the Carrier, and is now in the process of being delivered. Another "sit tight, things are still happening" status.
Created
Created is an internal status for Full Measure. It means that we have created your message and it exists in our system, but we potentially haven't done anything else with it yet. Accepted and delivered statuses could follow.
There are three other scenarios where you will see created with no other status to follow.
- For in app messages, they always stay created. If you see created, and see that the student has downloaded the mobile app, it means the message has been delivered.
Your message will also stay created if they student is marked "stop all text messages", which you can see from their details page. The toggle that displays "stop all text messages" will be toggled on and to the right. They will also stay created if they have opted out of messages in that channel.
If they opted out of that specific channel, you would be able to see that in the channel where you are attempting to message.
Your messages will also stay created if the student has a bad or fake phone number, like 5555550101.
Duplicate
There was a duplicate message created in our system. Rest assured, this message didn't go out, but we keep track of duplicates to make sure we don't delete messages that we created.
Delivery Stats Dashboard
You will also see several statuses in the delivery stats dashboard. There is one particular status I want to call out that is a red herring. When you see "sms service is missing required attributes", you can ignore that status. It is a call back we receive from Twilio, even though the message is still delivered. Here is an example:
