Twilio has informed us that carriers have begun to more strictly enforce their spam filtering guidelines from long code (standard 10 digit) phone numbers. Messages that include links, as well as sending messages to many recipients a day and repeatedly blasting students with few responses can put your phone number at risk of getting flagged for spam.
Unfortunately, carriers do not always indicate when and why a message gets flagged for spam, making it difficult to implement wide-sweeping best practices/solutions. Per Twilio, both the uptick in filtering and spam flagging are true for any service provider and is not unique to the Full Measure solution.
The first step in our solution is to change the number that managed SMS messages come from. Since we know that this number is published and shared with students, the first thing is we'll send you a new number to promote. We will also create a script so that if any students text the old number, they will automatically receive a message from the new number when the advisor goes to text them again.
